Defect Builds Guide — Slay the Spire 2

Defect has three main deck archetypes in Slay the Spire 2: Uproar Chain for consistent free attacks, 0-Cost Claw spam for infinite scaling, and Frost/Focus for defensive orb stacking. This guide covers all three builds with core cards, relics, and strategies.

Defect Build Overview

Uproar Chain

Play Uproar to chain free high-cost attacks. Most consistent Defect build.

Difficulty: Easy
Consistency: Very High

0-Cost Claw

Spam 0-cost Claw cards that permanently scale. Requires All For One.

Difficulty: Medium
Consistency: Medium

Frost/Focus

Stack Focus to make Frost orbs generate massive Block. Defensive scaling.

Difficulty: Medium
Consistency: High

Uproar Chain Build

The Uproar build is the most consistent Defect strategy. Uproar plays a random attack from your draw pile for free. Remove all Strikes, add high-cost attacks, and chain them together.

Core Strategy

1. Remove ALL Strikes from deck (critical!)

2. Get 2-3 copies of Uproar

3. Add high-cost attacks (Meteor Strike, Sunder)

4. Uproar chains into itself and other attacks

5. Use Plasma orbs for energy, Frost for defense

Win Condition

Play Uproar → it plays Meteor Strike for free → Meteor Strike gives 3 Plasma → Dualcast Plasma for 6 energy → Play more cards → Uproar chains continue.

Example Turn: Uproar (10 dmg + free Meteor Strike 24 dmg) → Uproar (10 dmg + free Sunder 24 dmg + 3 energy) = 68 damage for 4 energy

Critical Tips for Uproar Build

  • • Remove Strikes ASAP - They brick Uproar chains. Prioritize Strike removal over adding cards.
  • • Don't take weak attacks - Only take high-impact attacks (15+ damage or special effects)
  • • Uproar is Common - You'll see it often. Take 2-3 copies.
  • • Meteor Strike is key - Free 24 damage + 3 Plasma = massive energy generation
  • • Works against all bosses - Doesn't care about enemy count or mechanics

0-Cost Claw Build

The Claw build revolves around playing many 0-cost Claw cards per turn. Each Claw permanently gains +2 damage when played, scaling infinitely.

Core Strategy

1. Collect multiple Claw cards (4-6 copies)

2. Get All For One to return 0-cost cards from discard

3. Add other 0-cost cards (Hologram, Scrape upgraded)

4. Play all Claws → All For One → repeat

5. Each Claw permanently gains +2 damage

Win Condition

Play 5 Claws (15 damage each = 75 total) → All For One returns all Claws → Play 5 Claws again (17 damage each = 85 total) → Repeat until enemy dies.

Claw damage: 3 → 5 → 7 → 9 → 11 → 13 → 15 → 17... scales infinitely

Frost/Focus Build

The Frost build stacks Focus to make Frost orbs generate massive Block. Each point of Focus adds +1 Block per Frost orb at end of turn.

Core Strategy

1. Stack Focus with Defragment power

2. Channel Frost orbs with Glacier, Coolheaded

3. Get more orb slots with Capacitor, relics

4. Each Frost orb gives (2 + Focus) Block per turn

5. Use Loop to evoke orbs for burst Block

Win Condition

With 3 Focus and 4 Frost orbs, you gain 20 Block per turn automatically (5 Block per orb × 4 orbs). Enemies can't damage you.

Example: 4 Frost orbs + 3 Focus = 20 Block/turn. Add Loop = 40 Block/turn. Unkillable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Defect build in Slay the Spire 2?

Uproar Chain is the most consistent and easiest to assemble. It works on all Ascension levels and doesn't require rare cards. 0-Cost Claw has the highest ceiling but needs All For One.

How do I play Uproar build correctly?

Remove ALL Strikes from your deck. Only add high-cost, high-impact attacks. Get 2-3 Uproars. When you play Uproar, it will chain into other Uproars and big attacks for free.

Is Claw build viable?

Yes, but only if you get All For One. Without it, Claw build is weak. With it, Claw scales infinitely and becomes very strong.

Should I mix builds?

No. Commit to one archetype. Mixing Uproar with 0-Cost dilutes both strategies. Pick one based on cards offered.
